10 Ways to Keep Yourself from Falling off the Bandwagon this Fall

Do you notice that once the fall season kicks into full gear, your fitness regimen and health goals tend to fall down on the list of priorities you set? Do you struggle with maintaining your results as the holidays approach?

It’s no secret that the coming months can be some of the most difficult when it comes to maintaining a fitness regimen that is consistent, not to mention maintaining the results you’ve gained through the previous months. It all starts with Halloween, and then we get into Thanksgiving, and you can’t forget the holiday parties. All of this is leading up to Christmas, Hanukah, and other big holidays that close out the year.

Next thing you know, it’s the start of a new year and it’s been almost three months since you’ve been to the gym or been confident with your choices for meals and snacks.

What if I told you it didn’t have to be this way? What if you could stay on track this fall and during the holidays, so you can maintain your results and keep on track to reach your goals?

Here are 10 ways to keep going this fall and ensure that you will be able to finish this year stronger than ever!

1. Have a Plan. Planning is the best way to get results. Having a plan before you get too busy and before the stress of the holidays really hits will set you up for success this fall. Take time now to look at your calendar now, and often. Be aware of when your schedule will be busy, so you are prepared for the weeks when you may have to switch up your workouts, plan meals ahead of time, or just be ready to get creative. When you are aware ahead of time of where the speedbumps are, you can navigate them more effectively.

2. Maintain a Schedule that Works for You. For some, there isn’t much that changes throughout the year. For many others, fall begins a trickle affect that can snowball into months of missed workouts, eating out and poor sleeping habits. Maintaining a realistic schedule that works for you can help keep you from being overwhelmed, which will also allow you to be more successful. Planning to cut back to three workouts a week may be best instead of insisting you do five which in-turn becomes only one or even at all.

3. Implement HIIT Training. As we have discussed before, HIIT training, or High-Intensity Interval Training, can be an efficient and effective way to get your workouts in without having to spend hours in the gym. HIIT style workouts offer a great solution during this busy time of year!

4. Hold Yourself Accountable. Accountability actually means to take responsibility. Acting now and finding a personal trainer, friend, or family member to workout with you and hold you accountable can be a major source of motivation and success as schedules become busier. Accountability can also be impactful on a personal level. Set realistic goals as you plan for the coming months and hold yourself accountable to those goals and what you decide you are determined to do.

5. Make it Social. Fall is a great time of year to get back outside to be active! Make your fitness and workout a social event by inviting friends and family to hike with you, play football at a holiday event or go for a run. Making your workouts more social will motivate you to stay active and will help those you love be active as well! 6. Increase Your Fiber Intake. Maintaining a proper intake of fiber can help regulate blood sugar, curve cravings, help you control your calorie intake, and so much more. As we get further into the fall season, we tend to eat heavier meals, we eat out more, and we have more sugar around us than in other times of the year. Combat all of these things naturally by increasing you’re fiber intake and ensuring your getting the proper amounts daily.

7. Moderation. Whether it’s your favorite candy at Halloween or your favorite dish served at Thanksgiving, the most important thing to remember is moderation. Be aware of your portion sizes and remember that a small piece of pie that you love is better than sneaking a whole pie in the middle of the night. Your key to success this fall is in finding moderation in all things. Here are more tips for ways you can use moderation this fall to help you stay on track for success.

8. Plan Your Plate. Thanksgiving and holiday parties can be overwhelming when trying to watch what you eat. Plan ahead of time and decide what you will choose to fill your plate.
