Jonelle’s Transformation Story
I am one of those people who enjoys working out. As a kid, I loved doing gymnastics and dance. Then in the 80’s, I did aerobics and 90’s it was Jazzercise. Being Italian, I wasn’t blessed with skinny genes, so exercising was important to stay fit. But like most of us, life got busy and I didn’t work out for awhile.
A couple years ago, it was time to get back to taking care of myself, so I joined a large bootcamp in Gilbert. The combination of cardio and weight training was really fun. But, with their Groupon deals, this particular bootcamp would have upwards of 40 women in one class with one trainer. Then the trainer started pushing women to lift heavier weights, challenge themselves, which is not a bad thing, but then I, like many, injured myself. So I tried Orange Theory, which was all the craze. One trainer, 30 people and repeat of the same workout over and over again. I got bored.
There was a time about 2003 that I hired a personal trainer. Nice college guy in his 20’s who was really fit. It did not take long to figure out that he did not really know what he was doing. But I did enjoy it and see the benefit of having a trainer.
Last year, I started researching personal trainers. Vimtrim was one of the companies I was considering. While looking at their website, I clicked Partners and saw my longtime doctor whom I have enormous respect for, was listed. With that, I called Vimtrim and set a meeting with Chris. We had a great conversation and I started two sessions a week with one of the trainers Steve. That was about 8 months ago. Over that time, I have lost weight and kept it off, along with gaining muscle and definition. Steve wanted to know my goals and my diet. He asked my workout history and what worked and didn’t work. He created personal workouts for me, for my body, for my fitness level to achieve my goals. I remember telling him I hate doing the same thing over and over. While we have repeated exercises, no two workouts have ever been the same. The Vimtrim gym has all the equipment, but we have worked outside on a few occasions. Nothing like doing lunges down a long sidewalk. I appreciate that Steve continues to challenge me and continually checks my form. He loves to say “have I ever asked you do to something you couldn’t do”. He knows what I can do better than I do. I enjoy Vimtrim and am so grateful for their gym and for Steve. Best thing I have done for myself in long time.
